Introduction to Atma Vichara Meditation with Billy Burbank
Introduction to Atma Vichara with Billy Burbank
Atma Vichara, meaning “self-inquiry,” is a meditation technique created by the Indian Spiritual teacher Sri Ramana Maharshi. It is a process by which the aspiring student brings silence to his mind and discovers true Self. The techniques of Atma Vichara are so simple and effective it is bound to bring results to the novice and adept alike.
The group will go deeply into the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi, the more recent “Power of Now” of Eckhart Tolle, the Thelemic Holy Books received by Aleister Crowley, and the Gnostic teachings of Christ. While we will draw on the teachings of these masters, participants are not asked to believe any doctrine but rather experience firsthand the effect that Atma Vichara can have upon their consciousness!
Each session will begin with a short introduction and explanation of simple techniques followed by an hour of silent meditation (yoga mats may be advised). The hour or so after meditation will be question and answer so that everyone can improve their understanding and better practice Atma Vichara.
Billy Burbank is an artist and musician living in Brooklyn. In 2005-06 Billy studied Atma Vichara at the Atma Vichara ashram in Boynton Beach, Florida under teacher, I Am. Billy spent three years as an initiate of the Thelemic organization Temple of Thelema and though he has since resigned in good standing, he still considers himself a Thelemite but understands that all labels and manners of identification only ever POINT to the truth of what IS: that which works in Silence and naught but Silence can express.
